When you have fine hair, getting a gorgeous, full-looking style can be tough — you primp it up, tousle it around, and blow it out, but it just keeps falling flat. Next time you're styling freshly clean, dry hair, try this simple trick for a little extra oomph.

Step 1: Separate your hair.

Run a comb down and part your hair about an inch away from your regular part. This keeps the teased portion of your hair hidden.

Step 2: Backcomb it with a toothbrush.

Gently tease your roots at the crown along your parted hair using a clean, unused toothbrush. Yes, really — a toothbrush! The bristles are soft and small, making the added lift more subtle, and allowing you to retain more control than you would be able to with a regular hairbrush. (You don't want totally '80s hair after all, do you?) Not sure how teasing works? Here's a handy GIF to show how we did it.

Step 3: Repeat.

Flip your part to the other side and tease it gently again.

Step 4: Part normally.

Voila! More volume without any messiness.
